Mother Alvinia Quarles, is originally from Farmville, Virginia. She is a married to Elder John Quarles. The couple has 3 lovely children – all boys. Mother Quarles arrived in Alaska in 1996 as a result of her husband’s military assignment. In November 1996, she was proactive in the founding of what was then Greater New Hope Baptist Church, and under the leadership of Pastor Otis McCormick. the church was later changed to Greater New Hope Church of God in Christ. Mother Quarles has worked extensively in the local church, the Northern District, and at the State level. She has served as her local church President of the Women’s Department, President of the Young Women’s Christian Council, Usher Board President, Praise Team Member, Choir Director, Sunshine Band Director, and Sunday School Teacher; she currently serves as the Church Mother of Greater New Hope and a Northern District Missionary Chairlady.

She has also served as the President for the State Minister’s Wives Auxiliary and she is a member of the Bishop C.D. Williams Scholarship Committee. She is currently pursuing a degree in Paralegal Studies from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Mother Quarles enjoys reading and teaching God's Word, writing and performing illustrated sermons, bowling, traveling, and fellowshipping with the Saints.
